The Town of Okotoks is located a little over 30 km south of the Calgary city centre. Okotoks straddles the Sheep River valley near the eastern edge of Rocky Mountain Foothills. On a clear day the Rocky Mountains define the western horizon, while gentle hills and wide open fields stretch away in all other directions.

Okotoks is growing community with a population of almost 14000 (as of 2003) that provides some big-city ammenities while still having a small town feel.

Early July weather in Okotoks is normally moderate with highs in the low 20's (C, around 72F) and lots of sunshine. Temperatures at race time should range from a comfortable 14C to 17C (57F to 62F).
